[Outside the church, a man, Eric, walks down its steps. Inside the church, a woman, Harold Shand's mother, kisses Jesus's feet on the cross.] Narrator: London, Good Friday.
[Eric gets into the Rolls Royce parked outside the church.] Narrator: Not just any Good Friday. [The car blows up in flames.]

[Harold Shand, a London gangster, talks to Jeff, his right-hand man, and Razors, one of his henchmen, in a ship. His girlfriend Victoria walks in.] Harold: Outside a church? You don't go crucifying people outside a church, not on Good Friday.
[A caption reads, "Bob Hoskins". Harold walks through Heathrow airport.] Narrator: Harold Shand, undisputed king of London's underworld.
[On the boat docked on the Thames, Victoria, pours champagne from a bottle served on a tray by a waiter, and hands two filled up flutes to Harold and American businessman Charlie. Jeff and Tony, Charlie's lawyer, join them.] Narrator: Now he's setting up the biggest business deal of his career.
[The men toast as Victoria fills a flute of champagne for herself.] Harold: Hands across the ocean, right? Charlie: To the future.
[In a country farm house, three men counting money from a delivery are attacked by uniformed gunmen.] Narrator: Someone is out to stop him.
[Razors drives through London with Harold in the passenger's seat.] Harold: Can you think of anybody who might've an old score to settle or something? Razors: Who's big enough to take you on?
[Harold meets with dozens of his henchmen.] Harold: Someone somewhere knows. Right? I want the man who knows. Right. Who fancies what?
[Razors, followed by Harold and Jeff, bursts open a bedroom door, where Erroll, a Black man, is having sexual intercourse with a blond white woman.] Narrator: Harold has 24 hours to find out who's after him.
Harold: Beauty and the beast. [Razors puts a gun to Erroll's head.] Harold: Blow his head off.
[A caption reads, "Eddie Constantine as Charlie". Charlie, Victoria, Tony and Councilman Harris sit at a restaurant table.] Charlie: Auto, casino, stabbing, a bar blown up... What is this, a gang war?
Victoria: No, no question. [A caption reads, "Helen Mirren".] Victoria: Harold and I have no doubt that by tomorrow the problem will be settled.
[Outside a pub, Razors pushes Billy, a local businessman, against the wall. Harold puts a gun to his back.] Harold: Walk to the car, Billy, or I'll blow your spine off.
[Billy walks slowly in front of Harold and Razors.] Billy: It's not a shooter, is it, Harold? Harold: Oh, don't be silly, Billy. Would I come hunting for you with me fingers?
[In an abattoir, several men hang upside down from meat hooks. Harold and some of his henchmen stand in front of them.] Harold: I've treated you lot well, even when you was out of order, right? Well, now there's been an eruption!
[Jeff walks in front on the men hanging upside down. Rows of beef hang behind the men.] Harold: One of my closest friends is lying out there in the freezer. And believe me, all of you, nobody goes home until I find out who done it.
[At their home, Victoria cries as Harold comforts her.] Narrator: What should have been the greatest day of Harold's life suddenly becomes the longest. Victoria: I don't want to die.
[A group of armed men kidnap Phil, Colin's driver, and another young man in a pub's car park. In a public swimming pool, a stabbed Colin is pushed by a man against a pilar and falls to the floor.] Narrator: Violence erupts on London's streets.
[Following a dog to the top of an empty London building, a woman, Sherry, screams, as she finds Flynn, the security guard of a construction and demolition factory, nailed to the floor.] Narrator: Harold's empire begins to crumble.
[In the abattoir, Harold confronts Jeff.] Narrator: Suddenly he's fighting for survival. Harold: If you kill him, we've got gang war on our hands, right? Jeff: We already have!
[At an office at a stock car racetrack, Razors opens the door to an armed man, who shoots both Harris and an IRA man, as Harold looks on.]
[In his casino, Harold talks to one of his men.] Harold: Eric's been blown to smithereens, Colin's been carved up, and I've got a bomb in me casino, and you say nothing unusual?
[The Lion and Unicorn pub explodes as Harold approaches it in a car driven by Razors.]
