I think 'Macchie Solari' is one of the most terrifying gialli movies I have ever seen, and a large part is undoubtedly the result of the soundtrack by Morricone, so I'm extremely pleased with this vinyl release which to my knowledge has never been reissued. I consider it one of the best soundtracks of the late maestro, and maybe his least known, because it is also one of his most experimental ones. Although this double album starts with a deceivingly idyllic tune -with apparently a very good oboe player playing the melody- the rest of the soundtrack is followed with the most eerie and haunting music and sounds Morricone ever created -not unsurprisingly very original in choice of musical instruments and orchestration- and clearly reflecting his background of studying with the Italian composer Petrassi and also the whole entourage of the Gruppo '63, music reminiscent of post-war Italian composers like Bruno Maderna (who coincidentally also wrote a score for the giallo 'Death laid an egg' (with Jean-Louis Trintignant) and Luciano Berio. The remastering of this album is beautifully done and the stereo effects are really effective. This record will not only appeal to fans of Morricone but also to listeners of experimental classical music. The concept art of the sleeve of this album is really nice as well, and I had the opportunity to buy it for a very good price, so If you have the chance and hesitating, just buy it, you won't be disappointed.
