When health official Elizabeth Driscoll (Brooke Adams) notices that her lover has become strangely distant, this sets in train a series of shocking discoveries that sees both her and colleague Matthew Bennell (Donald Sutherland) fleeing for their lives to the sound of ear-piercing alien screams.
Remakes of great films are usually on a hiding to nothing, but Philip Kaufman's brilliant update of the 1956 classic is a rare and memorable exception. Transposing the action to the heart of San Francisco allows Kaufman to retain all the suspense of Jack Finney's original story while adding caustic social commentary about the selfishness of the 1970s "me generation" that remains all too relevant today.
But it's a paranoid thriller first and foremost, based on one of the most psychologically terrifying of all premises - what happens when you can no longer trust not just the authorities but even your nearest and dearest?

'Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.' 4K UHD.
Having owned the Kino Lorber 4K UHD release of Director Philip Kaufman's 1978 remake of 'Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.' and now bought and watched this new Special edition 4K UHD release from Arrow Films, firstly I can confident say that this new Arrow release has superior, modestly but (to my eyes anyway) noticeably improved video in terms of sharpness and clarity. It also sounds excellent and all the dialogue is perfectly clear. That said; my audio set-up is only 2-Channel Stereo so I can't comment on the effectiveness of the surround sound effects of the multi-channel track. This new Arrow release may not have any new on-disc special features but what there is (which is exactly the same as that on the previous Kino Lorber release) is quite extensive and enjoyable. This Arrow Films release comes in a very sturdy and, I think, exceptionally nicely designed slip box and slip cover and includes 5 art cards, a double-sided poster printed on generously thick paper, a booklet with extensive writing about the Film and the Film itself in a standard 4K blu ray Amaray case. All I can say is that if you don't yet own 'Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.' on 4K UHD blu ray, then this new Special Edition release from Arrow Films is by far the best one to buy. In fact even if you already have the Kino Lorber 4K release then due to the superior video on this new release alone, it's definitely worth a double-dip.
