Reporter Reiko is interviewing teenagers about the urban legend of a ‘haunted videotape’ which causes anyone who sees it to die seven days later. Her investigation leads her to an unlabelled tape which upon viewing she discovers is the legendary tape in question. Her ex-husband and young son also view the tape and Reiko finds herself in a race against time to discover the tape’s origins and save her family. Her desperate search will eventually lead her to a remote island and a house which was the home of a mysterious psychic and her disturbed daughter Sadako. Hideo Nakata’s chilling adaptation of the Koji Suzuki novel became an international sensation and made Japanese horror cinema a worldwide phenomenon in the early 2000s, it now returns to the big screen in a 4k restoration to terrify audiences once more.
