British actress Sheila Hancock gives an authentic, career-best performance as Edith ‘Edie’ Muir, a gruff, bitter woman in her eighties. After the death of her controlling husband George, Edie’s determination to retain her independence strains an already fraught relationship with her daughter Nancy. Edie decides to fulfil a lifelong dream of climbing a Scottish mountain, employing Jonny to help train her. As the pair bicker, talk and have fun, they reveal more about their lives to each other against the sublime landscape of the Scottish Highlands. It’s a touching, tender portrait of late-life adventure and self-discovery.
