The Mockingbird Cinema and Kitchen in conjunction with Cine-Excess are proud to announce a new partnership with Arrow Films bringing the “Arrow Video Club” to Birmingham on April 29th 2018 at 5pm.
The quarterly Arrow Video Club brings audiences a diverse collection of cinema experiences, from world-renowned favourites to new films to be enjoyed for the first time. The idea of the film club is that likeminded people can come and enjoy cinema with a difference. There will also be giveaways on the night, special events and Q&A’s with filmmakers in the future.
The Arrow Video Club launches on Sunday 29th of April with two classic titles;
Battle Royale (2000)
Forty-two 9th graders are sent to a deserted island. They are given a map, food, and various weapons. An explosive collar is fitted around their neck. If they break a rule, the collar explodes. Their mission: kill each other and be the last one standing. The last survivor is allowed to leave the island. If there is more than one survivor, the collars explode and kill them all.
This disturbing Japanese thriller follows Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi), a widower who decides to start dating again. Aided by a film-producer friend (Jun Kunimura), Aoyama uses auditions for a fake production to function as a dating service. When Aoyama becomes intrigued by the withdrawn, gorgeous Asami (Eihi Shiina), they begin a relationship. However, he begins to realize that Asami isn't as reserved as she appears to be, leading to gradually increased tension and a harrowing climax.
James Anderson Brown, co-owner of the Mockingbird Cinema said;
“I am absolutely delighted that we are launching the Arrow Video Club, I am personally a massive fan of the company, the catalogue that is under the Arrow banner is immense and is so rich in it’s content the club will be an absolute joy for film fans.
