Brilliant Release… One Small Problem.
An excellent release and a crisp transfer which is a pleasure to watch. I do believe this is possibly my favourite Tarantino film. This box set is beautifully presented with many accoutrement which make it a worthwhile purchase, even if you already had it in your collection (as I did). Though, I noticed a small and insignificant, but nerdy, issue. Hans Landa is characterised by his intuition as a Hunter. In the opening sequence of the film he grabs the wrist of the LaPadite girl to measure her pulse as he figures out whether the family is hiding enemies of the state. Likewise, in the restaurant scene when Landa is reunited with Shosanna, he tries to test whether she is Jewish by ordering cream with her strudel (the strudel containing animal fat with dairy on the same plate would not be Kosher). These two small details speak to the evil of Landa and the brilliance of Tarantino’s writing. The small issue I have with the box set is that the charming recipe card for Strudel that is included, does not contain any animal fat or lard ingredient, thus voiding this small detail within the film. As I say, a tiny and nerdy detail to miss, but something I noticed nevertheless.
